In a rat model of traumatic optic neuropathy, erythropoietin (EPO) demonstrated neuroprotective effects by safe-guarding retinal ganglion cells, reducing reactive astrocyte activation, and promoting axon regeneration. Using the OptoDrum, visual function was assessed through optomotor tests, with EPO-treated animals showing significant improvement in visual ability compared to the control group.
