This study established a high myopia model in C57BL/6J mice using monocular form deprivation myopia (FDM) and investigated its ocular structure changes over time. Researchers divided 3-week-old mice into FDM and control groups, patching the left eyes of the FDM group. After 12 weeks, deprived eyes showed significant changes, including longer axial length, higher refractive power, and thinner retina, choroid, and sclera. The retinal vascular area in covered eyes decreased, with an accelerated decline from weeks 8 to 12. The study successfully induced high myopia in mice, with axial length growing dramatically in the first 8 weeks and fundus pathology progressing faster thereafter. A Photorefractor was used to measure refraction in the mice’s eyes, providing accurate measurements of the induced myopic changes.
