Zhao et al developed quercetin-loaded exosome eye drops (Exo-Que) to enhance quercetin bioavailability and prevent myopia by targeting scleral fibroblasts. Exo-Que improved quercetin’s solubility and ocular bioavailability. In a guinea pig form-deprivation model of myopia, it reduced refractive error progression and axial elongation to a degree comparable to 0.1% atropine, while inhibiting ER-stress and ferroptosis pathways linked to scleral extracellular matrix remodeling and showing good ocular and systemic safety. Refractive development was quantified using an infrared photorefractor from Striatech, which contributed precise in vivo monitoring of treatment effects.
