This study investigates the effects of quercetin (QUE) on scleral remodeling and its potential to slow myopia progression in guinea pigs. Researchers induced myopia in guinea pigs and treated them with QUE for 4-6 weeks. The results showed that QUE significantly reduced refractive errors and axial length of the eyes, thickened the sclera, and increased collagen density. QUE also decreased the expression of PERK, EIF2α, and MMP-2 while increasing TIMP-2 and collagen I expression. These findings suggest that QUE may help prevent myopia by inhibiting the PERK-EIF2α signaling pathway. The study utilized a Photorefractor, to conduct high-precision refractive measurements in the guinea pigs’ eyes.
