Non-aversive Animal Restraint Enabling Recording of Optomotor Reflex in Ground Squirrels

Miyagishima et al describe a redesigned animal platform for the Striatech OptoDrum. It incorporates a semi-closed containment to reduce handling-induced stress and anxiety. This platform dramatically reduced escape behavior and allowed, for the first time, successful optomotor reflex recording in the 13-lined ground squirrel. They also showed that for standard models, like Bl/6 mice, the outcomes with the standard platform and the new platform did not differ.
