From June 2–5, 2025, the international laboratory animal science community will gather in Athens, Greece, for FELASA 2025 — Europe’s leading event on laboratory animal science and welfare.

Striatech is proud to be part of this important congress, showcasing innovations that promote both scientific excellence and animal welfare in vision research. We are committed to supporting high standards in research by providing precision tools that deliver reproducible data while aligning with the 3Rs principles. Our solutions are designed to reduce animal stress, refine experimental conditions, and help researchers achieve their scientific goals ethically and effectively.

New at FELASA 2025

Our latest innovation is designed to set new standards for animal welfare in vision research:

Non-Aversive Animal Platform for the OptoDrum

Developed to further increase comfort and improve data quality when working with sensitive or complex reacting animal models. This platform includes transparent side walls to provide a calm and secluded environment. The innovative “tunnel-lid” ensures a low-stress transition from the home cage to the testing arena.

Animal Welfare Features of the OptoDrum

The new animal platform builds on Striatech’s commitment to animal welfare in research and complements existing animal-friendly features of the OptoDrum, including:

Non-invasive behavioral readout: The OptoDrum measures visual acuity based on the optomotor reflex and allows researchers to monitor both improvements and deteriorations across a wide range of diseases. It is a valuable tool not only for visual disorders but also for studying neurological diseases such as stroke or neuroinflammation — all without the need for invasive or terminal procedures.

Front-door access: Unlike top-opening systems, the OptoDrum’s front door makes animal handling easier and less stressful. It also simplifies cleaning, reducing residual odors that could affect animal behavior.
