Myopia research is evolving rapidly — and with it, the need for reliable, precise, and efficient measurement tools.

To support researchers in addressing one of the field’s key challenges, Striatech has developed a fully integrated solution: the Myopia Suite, combining the Photorefractor and Keratometer into one seamless workflow.

Designed for the realities of myopia research

The limitations of manual measurement — especially in small animal models — have long been a bottleneck in myopia research. Variability, fixation requirements, and limited repeatability can make data collection both time‑consuming and inconsistent.

Developed in collaboration with Prof. Frank Schaeffel, the Striatech Myopia Suite was built to overcome these challenges through automation, precision, and flexibility.

Photorefractor: Automated refractive measurement

The Striatech Photorefractor enables fully automated measurement of refractive state across a wide range of animal models, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, and chickens.

Key capabilities include:

  • Measurement in awake or anesthetized animals
  • No fixation required
  • High‑speed acquisition at 115 frames per second
  • Consistent, reproducible results through automated tracking

By removing movement as a limiting factor, the Photorefractor allows researchers to focus on what matters most: accurate and reliable data.

Keratometer: Understanding structural changes

While refractive state is a key output, it is only part of the equation.

The Striatech Keratometer complements refractive measurements by capturing corneal curvature, enabling researchers to better understand the structural changes underlying myopia progression.

Together, both systems provide a more complete picture of ocular development and change.

One workflow. Two instruments.

The true strength of the Myopia Suite lies in the combination of both instruments:

  • Automated refractive state measurement with the Photorefractor
  • Precise corneal curvature analysis with the Keratometer
  • Integrated into a single, efficient workflow

This allows for a more holistic and streamlined approach to data collection, reducing manual effort while increasing data quality.
