Professional Insights
What inspired you to start Striatech and how has the company’s vision evolved over time?
Striatech was born out of a university project that I had been involved in for many years. The essence of Striatech lies in our mission to bring innovative ideas from fundamental research to the market, making them accessible to all researchers. Over time, our vision has expanded from offering tools to becoming a global partner for scientists, empowering them to push the boundaries of visual neuroscience.
What do you see as the biggest innovation Striatech has brought to the field of visual neuroscience?
The OptoDrum is one of our greatest innovations. Previously, researchers had to manually observe the behavior of individual mice to assess visual function, which led to variability in results. Now, the OptoDrum delivers direct, comparable results without the need for manual observation, saving time and ensuring consistent measurements across different scientists.
What challenges have you faced as a founder and how did you overcome them?
As scientists, starting a business came with a steep learning curve, especially when it came to the legal and financial aspects. Neither Thomas, Boris nor I had a business background, so understanding taxes, managing contracts, and handling international sales were entirely new challenges for us. To bridge that gap, I pursued an MBA, as this helped me to understand the business side. Although learning these new skills while building a company wasn’t easy, it allowed us to create a stronger foundation for Striatech by combining scientific innovation with sound business principles.
What’s been your proudest moment as a leader at Striatech?
One of my proudest moments was seeing Striatech products being used in major research publications. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our tools are contributing to advancements in visual neuroscience and are trusted by top-tier scientists.
How do you envision Striatech shaping the future of visual neuroscience?
I see Striatech continuing to play a pivotal role in transforming how research is conducted. Our goal is to create tools that not only support but accelerate discoveries in visual neuroscience, leading to real-world applications in treating visual disorders.
Personal Insights
What drives you personally in your work and life?
I’m driven by the desire to create something meaningful. Knowing that Striatech’s tools can potentially change the way we understand and treat visual disorders is incredibly motivating. I also want to create an environment where innovation can thrive, not just for us but for future generations of scientists.
Outside of work, what inspires you or keeps you motivated?
I enjoy traveling both for work and leisure. The direct contact with people and cultures is a great source of motivation for me. These encounters not only enrich my personal life but also inspire my professional work. By experiencing different perspectives and approaches, I can develop innovative ideas and incorporate them into my projects. Traveling broadens my horizons and strengthens my ability to find creative solutions.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work that helps you stay balanced?
I love running, pilates and spending time in nature with friends. It’s my way of disconnecting and recharging. There’s something about being outdoors that clears my mind and gives me the space to reflect, which ultimately helps me return to work with a fresh perspective.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned as an entrepreneur that you wish you knew at the start?
One lesson I wish I had known earlier is the importance of having a robust product pipeline. In the beginning, we focused heavily on perfecting our initial product, but soon realized that having a continuous stream of new and innovative products is crucial for long-term success. A well-planned product pipeline not only keeps the company competitive but also ensures sustained growth and adaptability in a constantly evolving market. This approach allows us to meet the changing needs of our customers and stay ahead of industry trends.
Who or what has been your greatest source of inspiration throughout your career?
Building and developing Striatech has been an incredible learning experience for me. I have gained so much knowledge and insight throughout this journey, and I am immensely proud of our team. Their dedication, creativity, and hard work have been a constant source of inspiration for me. Together, we have overcome challenges and achieved remarkable milestones, and I am excited about what the future holds for us.
